The friendship between a New York City lion and zebra is tested when fate brings them out to the unforgiving wilderness in this computer-animated DreamWorks feature. Chris Rock does the voice of Marty the Zebra, whose longing to explore beyond his cushy Central Park Zoo boundaries is the impetus that ultimately strands him and his pals on the shores of savage Madagascar. Marty loves the new, edible scenery, but his best friend Alex (voiced by Ben Stiller) the Lion begins to starve since his diet... [Get complete synopsis]

Rented 3 movies for the kiddies this weekend (2 of which I've been sorta wanting to see m'self...)

Madagascar was one of them...

It was OK, I guess. I laughed a handful of times. The penguins were cute but I had basically SEEN all their jokes in various previews and news clips. I don't really like Ben Stiller in LARGE doses, least of all his manic voice, so him in the lead role didn't help. Same again for DAvid Schwimmer (sp? ah, who cares)...

My daughter seemed to like it (and is watching it again for the nth time...though she's also playing with play-doh, too, so who's to say if she's actually WATCH watching it...)

Mediocre fare at best. ABSOLUTELY no Shrek...

It was good for a rental kids movie, had its moments, I loved chris rock as Marty the Zebra, have to agree with PM on ben stiller( who i personaly love) was not really good as Alex the lion, his voice was not powerful enough, not funny enough. I loved the Penguins. they were funny. You have to watch the Penguins own movie about X-mas its on the Same DVD. And the voice of the main penguin was the same guy who did the Voice of the Magic mirror in Shrek just a FYI

I didn't see it, but Dessy did. She usually loves this kind of stuff, but she thought this was aimed at very young children.

I saw a few minutes and found the animation less than spectacular.

I( brought the wife's car into Best buy and ended up waiting to 6 freakin hours!!! (to get a starter installed). Anyways, I watched March of The Penguins at Best buy - review coming soon. Then I walked next door to Costco and watched about 1 hour of Madagascar. I really enjoyed it. I'd like to see it in it's entirety, however I will still rate based on what i saw.

Well, this came out on the dish and I taped it for the kiddies...I must say, it DID grow on me for the 4-5 times I saw it again and again...

But, like most cartoons in this household, it wears thin around the 10-15th viewing...

The missus and I are STILL trying to figure out what Marty says in the slow-mo "Chariots of Fire" scene when he realizes Alex is pissed off.

I think it's "Oh should make some iced tea". The missus thinks it's something more "off-colour" (which may be true seeing as it's Chris Rock).

Now they're making #2.

My favourite character by far is King Julien, voiced by Mitch's soon-to-be favourite actor Sacha Baron Cohen who will be starring in that Borat movie...

"Shutupyouaresoannying!" - King Julien
