Mickey Blue Eyes (1999)

Cast: Hugh Grant, James Caan, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Burt Young, James Fox, Joe Viterelli, Gerry Becker, Maddie Corman

Director(s): Kelly Makin

Language: English

Genre: Comedy

Synopsis

Fish-out-of-water comedy tailor-made to the relaxed British mannerisms of star Hugh Grant. He stars as Michael Felgate, a dapper art auctioneer, whose romance with a school teacher entangles him in the workings of her mob family. While her father (James Caan) accepts Michael wholeheartedly, a misunderstanding results in Michael having to pose as a mafioso himself- resulting in culture-clash laughs...

By far the worst Hugh Grant movie I've seen this week. Very forgetable (as I saw this intheatres and remembered nothing of it), watching it again now I see why that is. For a comedy it's just not that funny. Jeanne Tripplehorn looks oh so good in this movie (1 star right there), Hugh Grant is his usual charming self (I think I'm developing a crush on this guy). James Caan - always good. The problem here isn't the acting, it's the movie as a whole, and for a comedy I really didn't laugh.

Ditto. One star for Tripplehorn. That's where it ends.
