Humorist Jean Shepard's vignette-laden, nostalgic view of Christmastime in Indiana during the 1940s.
The main story involves nine-year-old Ralphie, who desperately wants a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas -- and is waging an all-out campaign to convince his reluctant parents that the toy will be safe in his hands. Hilarious! And that's coming from a Jew! Maybe I don't get this whole gansa meshugah 'Christmas' thing, but this was the best Christmas-themed movie I've ever seen.
I recently saw a store that sells the lady's-leg-in-black-fishnet-stockings lamp that the father obsesses over in this movie.

Great, a bug! The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that you're hitting the submit button twice in a row or you're using the back and refresh buttons.

I'll have to write some code to prevent this. Bloody hell. Thanks Mitchy!

Great movie. "You're gonna put your eye out with that thing". I like the brother in his snow suit.
Classic

I also loved this movie. The best scene is where he swears in front of his father. Great stuff!

Well,

Watched this AGAIN this year...I think this is quite possibly my favourite holiday movie going. So rich, so much depth. So much of myself I see in the movie. Also not afraid to show the TRUE Christmas tale with REAL characters, instead of the washed up PC tales of today. The main character wishing for a GUN (BB) for Xmas.

My favourite line is when he has to explain where he had heard the swear word he uttered to his father while changing the tire. It cuts to the "Wonder Years"esque narator and he explains:

"Now, I'd heard the word uttered by my old man 10,000 times. The old man worked in profanity the way an artist would work in oils or clay. It was his true medium. A master."

Classic.

Papa Mikey!

Re-watched again last night with the family...doesn't get old, find new funny stuff each year.

Laugh out loud every time the father walks down stairs on Christmas morning looking like he just came off a 4 day bender...LOL!!!

And noticed this year, off to the side, the mother opening HER gift to find: she got a fly swatter!! LOOLLL!!!
