Ridley Scott (BLADE RUNNER, ALIEN) transports Hollywood to second-century Rome in this rousing historical epic that proudly harkens back to such films as BEN-HUR and SPARTACUS. Russell Crowe plays Maximus, a Roman general who leads the troops in conquering Germania for the empire. When an aging Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) tells Maximus that he'd like him to rule Rome once he's gone, a classic confrontation ensues between the brave and charming soldier--who wants to return home to his wife, ... Mood: About to eat pasta.....Mmmmmm!
One of my favorite movies of all time. Excellent, excellent and more excellent. Loved the action and the blood (especially when he cuts the guy's head off with two swords! Saw it in slow-mo about 10 times thanks to Amar). Great story, and I still listen to the soundtrack on a regular basis. Anyone who doesn't like this movie is a commie.

Mood: Eatin' Peanuts!
I must concur, a fabulous film. I enjoyed it and openly wept when the hero rejoins his family in the afterlife...but I'm a sucker for those sorts of things (family/honour/etc) and have a long history of weeping at movies...and I'm not afraid to ADMIT that!

Papa "Que es mos machos?" Mikey!

I agree with the group. One of my favorites. i was glad it swept the Oscars that year. Some incredible arena scenes.

Then consider me a Commie, and proud of it! You guys need to have your heads examined....this stunk big time. Dull, muddied camera work making action scenes (particularly the first one) unwatchable. Predictable stone-expressioned acting all around, especially Russell Crowe. Video-music calibre editing, awful "artsy" grainy footage, consistent Ben-Hur rip-offs....what's wrong with everyone????? Am I blind? I wish I was!!!
MasterWoodsman wrote on April 5, 2005, 3:11 pm
What a bozo! Go watch your depressing chick flicks and leave the men to review the REAL films!
motleymitch wrote on April 6, 2005, 4:32 pm
I might add, because I am such a good friend, that Derek's copy of this piece of shit on DVD did NOT end up at the bottom of some dingy river in San Antonio!

What.........What do you mean????
motleymitch wrote on April 7, 2005, 11:13 pm
Remember Adam swiped it from you in Texas, the day we went rafting without you? You said you had to study, missed the best day of the trip, and we wanted to make sure you studied and didn't stay home to watch this garbage (you probably played Playstation all day anyways).
We had the DVD with us on the raft and I was THIS CLOSE from drowning it forever. You're welcome!

But it has such a good porn-spinoff name
Glad He Ate Her

Mitch out of all the times you've been wrong (Spiderman, LOTR-ROFK etc...) this is your biggest error. I think the problem is that this movie is so good (as is Crowe) that you probably didn't understand half of it and therefore gave it a bomb. I MEAN COME ON, A BOMB!!!??? That means you can't appreciate the acting, direction, costume design, original score...etc...etc... You honestly think all that is complete garbage...you are NUTS NUTS NUTS NUTS
motleymitch wrote on May 7, 2005, 8:12 pm
Then label me off my rocker!
I know a bomb when I smells it!
This is pure crap from A to Z and back again.
But of course, you gave 4 stars to 'A Few Good Men and a Baby' and 'The Ghost and the Darkness Brothers.' NOW who's the gun-wielding maniac?!?
motleymitch wrote on May 7, 2005, 8:13 pm
P.S. - There is no right and wrong. Only opinion. And my opinion is that this sucks and you are wrong. Cracker.
Deril wrote on May 7, 2005, 10:45 pm
You know what Mitch,
The next time you REALLY like a movie I'm gonna bomb it just to spite you....that's just my "opinion"
Jefferygn wrote on May 9, 2005, 4:34 pm
I will weigh in on this one. This movie was a piece of crap. I am not going to bother repeating what Mitch has already so eloquently stated. He is right 100%. This movie sucked! And Crowe, for the record, is a great actor. However, he did not deserve to win for Glad He Ate Her. Rather, they gave him that Oscar because they realized they made a mistake in not giving it to him the year before for The Insider. (A far superior film to Glad He Ate Her.)

Sorry to hit a nerve, bro, but I'm not rating stuff to spite anyone. If I liked this overrated tripe (mmm...tripe!) I'd say so. Geez.

Mitch could bomb this all he wants, but he dreams of being in Gladiator 2

motleymitch wrote on July 17, 2006, 11:44 pm
My agent would get me better roles, like "Glad He Ate Her II: The Cakening!"

MasterWoodsman wrote on February 25, 2006, 11:45 am
Well maybe if you stopped pointing it out there won't be any problems!
suaveay wrote on February 25, 2006, 8:40 am
Hmm... It would appear that Mitchy's flagrant violation of hotlinking is gonna get you reported, Derricco...

That being said, this movie was great (apart from the criminally underused Derek Jacobi). Set, costumes, story, action sequences, acting, EVERYTHING was brilliant.
motleymitch wrote on March 9, 2006, 1:03 pm
HERE'S your brilliance, buddy!

I am hooked on the Ebert/Siskel/Roeper archive site! Just watched them review Gladiator and Ebert TRASHED it! Brilliant!

What's your rating of this movie?
