Cross LA BOHÈME with CABARET, throw in a little bit of RENT, and you might almost begin to describe Baz Luhrmann's visually opulent, fast-paced, funny, heartrending MOULIN ROUGE. The film, which premiered as the opener to the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, is a musical set in 1899 Paris at the notorious Montmartre cabaret club, the Moulin Rouge. Awful. Just plain awful. We turned it off about 45 minutes into the movie. The swirling colors where causing an acid flashback. I know some people loved this movie, but I hated it. A for effort, though. (Ozzy Osbourne had his voice in this movie?)

I saw this on an airplane (each seat had it's own personal TV screen). Anyways, after about 20 minutes, it was starting to FREAK ME OUT...to much going on. I had to switch to.....Jack Frost (Michael Keaton as a talking snowman) - As suck ass as that movie was, it was an Oscar contender compared to Moulin Rouge. One of the most painful viewwing experiences ever for me.

I NEVER turn off a movie or walk out of a theater, but I shut this off after 30 minutes. Annoying, annoying, annoying. The music was a take-off on popular 70's stuff - I GET IT - it still sucked. The only good musical is "Grease".

The first half hour of the film exists only to break your brain enough to enjoy the rest of the film.

I loved this film. It has everything - love, hate, musical numbers, hot women in frilly undies. Rich colours, sumptuous art design, incredible musical numbers. Excellent.
