Alice in Wonderland (1951)

Cast: Kathryn Beaumont, Ed Wynn, Sterling Holloway,

Director(s): Wilfred Jackson

Language: English

Genre: Fantasy / Animated

Based on the 1865 book by Lewis Carroll, this is the classic Disney animated version of Alice's adventures as she follows a white rabbit into a "Wonderland" of her own imagination. On her journey, she encounters the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, and a host of other beloved characters brought to life with the usual Disney zest. Combining stellar animation with upbeat songs such as "I'm Late," ALICE IN WONDERLAND garnered an Academy Award nomination for "Best Scoring of a Musical Picture."

I always loved this movie, primarily because it was one of only a handful that were available for the kids to watch up at our cottage in Namur (the other coming to mind is "Swiss Family Robinson" (addition pending)).

They just re-released it from the "Vault" and I'm trying to get my daughter interested in renting it, but she always succumbs to the lure of The Barbie movies....sigh!

Funny thing, though, I seem to recall that the movie was based on Lewis Caroll's version and that was written whilst ABSOLUTELY STONED on heroin (or opium)...good kids story!?

There's also numerous references to seemingly seedy, dark behaviour, least of which is the American McGee video game version. It lends out SO easily to this kind of comparison!

C'mon, ALL these stories were penned while stoned! Pinnocchio in a whale? Quaaludes! Aladdin flying a magic carpet? Magic mushrooms!
Seven coal-mining dwarfs? Horse tranquilizers!
Cinderella's coach turning into a pumpkin? Goofballs! High as a kite, everybody!
Anyways, what were we talking about?
Oh yeah, Alice. Opium!

"The Queen! The Queen! The Queen is coming!"
- Darrell, speaking his only line, as a playing card guard, in the Greendale Elementary School production of Alice in Wonderland. A star was born!

Bastard! I knew you'd mention that...I should have been the caterpiller, I WAS ROBBED!!!
Anywho, speaking of drugs, what about fantasia??!!? That movie's completely messed up.
This is a classic however, and I've seen it many times. Although weird, very good. Animation is top shelf fo it's time (as are most Disney classics)

What's your rating of this movie?
