Synopsis

Two decades after the Zucker brothers delivered the definitive word on in-flight comedy with the sidesplitting AIRPLANE movies, the question of how to regenerate the genre has finally been answered. Combine the relentless joke-fest of the Zucker movies, add a cast which appears to have fallen out of a 1970s blaxploitation movie, and serve with a touch of Wayans-brothers-inspired hilarity: today's in-flight meal is a dish called SOUL PLANE! Ever watch a movie, and then wonder how this tripe gets made. I mean, someone pitched this idea of an all black airline, and some Hollywood exec said "hey, that sounds like a winner!" This was such a bunch of bullshit and I can't believe I watched 2/3rds of this. The entire movie has elevator music playing in the back ground which is very annoying. The acting is horrendous, the "plot" (I use the term loosely) is non-existant, and the characters are annoying. Moreover, due to all the "black street-talk" I couldn't understand half of the dialogue. If I were black, I'd actually be embarassed to see how the blacks are so poorly stereotyped here.

Lastly, I have nothing against blacks or black-related movies/t.v. shows (the Cosby show is one of my all time favorites). Besides, as the saying goes...."Always bet on black" (accept for this movie).

Tuned in at 10:42 on MXS...watched some fat black woman talk trash as she scanned people at an airport security checkpoint, even using the dreaded "N" word (which is apparantly acceptable (and cool?) to use if you are black).

Tuned out at 10:46 to watch the last 14 minutes of an old CSI re-run on Spike...

If my 3 minute sampling was an testimony of the rest of the film, then I will PRE-rate it (going against EVERYTHING I hold dear)...

I just read that "King's Ransom" (another movie apparently pitched at young urban African Americans) received one of the lowest ratings on the Tomato Meter at Rottentomatoes.com (0%!!)

As Deril pointed out, I would be not only embarassed but offended and outraged that these kind of films not only get green-lighted but perpetuate these kinds of stereotypes.

Papa "Soapbox" Mikey!
