When a cockroach-spread plague threatens to decimate the child population of New York City, evolutionary biologist Susan Tyler and her research associates rig up a species of "Judas" bugs and introduce them into the environment, where they will "mimic" the diseased roaches and infiltrate their grubby habitats. Loved this movie, too. Great premise to a story: artifically bred cockroaches used to fight off a viral infection evolve to become a cure worse than the desease.

They mimic humans and adapt, survive and feed among us (and, well, ON us).

From the same director who gave us Cronos and Blade 2...so the effects are full of icky grossness!

Papa Mikey!

P.S. The sequels stank, including Mimic 3 watched during the Summer of George!

This was ho-hum stuff, but love the ickiness. Mira Sorvino, write if you get a good script after winning that Oscar!
The Summer of George refers to a Seinfeld episode where Costanza basically had all summer with no job, no woman, and could basically do what he wanted...or something to that effect.

When Mikey moved to Ottawa last summer and stayed at my place for about 6 weeks without the wife and kids (minus weekends) he specifically said to me, "Mitch, all I wanna do this summer is drink beer, play video games, and rent terrible b-movies that have absolutely no Barbies, Scooby-Doos, or Shreks in them!"
To which I said, "Sure!".
This was our summer of George, joined in periodically by Jeff and involving many trips to get Works burgers.
