The title character leads viewers through an accidental travelogue of American social history from the early 1960s through the present in this revisionist fable. When I saw this one in theatres I wasn't so impressed. My friend that I saw it with loved it and said right away that the movie & Hanks would win the OScar....I just didn't get it at the time. I was all about Pulp Fiction that year. (That was also the same year as Shawshank, which I thought was exceptional). Anyways, years have gone by and I've seen it more and more and I have grown to love this movie. In fact I thnk it's brilliant. Shows how even the smallest man with many sorts of "disadvantages/handicaps" can overcome the odds and make a successful life for himself. Lt. Dan was also a great character. I realise now that this movie has everything. Comedy, action, romance, it deals with life, death situations (he losses his mom & Jenny, but gains a son). Oh yeah the son is played by that snot nosed punk from the Sixth Sense. At the time I was upset that Pulp Fiction (which to me is the far better movie) didn't win (nor did Sam Jackson), but now I truely believe that it deserved to win. This movie has so many classic lines that are now used in day to day conversatons.
"Life is like a box of chocolate"
"Run Forrest, run"
"Stupid is as stupid does"
