|Cast: Brad Pitt, Ray Liotta, James Gandolfini, Scoot McNairy, Richard Jenkins|
Director(s): Andrew Dominik
Genre: Crime / Gangster
Boring as shit, long pauses with nothing going on, dialogue leading nowhere, characters thrown in for no purpose (Gandolfini)....it's too bad because the premise (while familiar) was promising and the first 20 minutes or so were compelling enough to keep watching. Then it just got burdened down with monotony, and dumb characters doing dumb things, and the director's inability to stop showing off with slo-mo, drawn-out, wank-fests disguised as 'style'. He wants to show you every camera trick he knows, and bore you to death in the process. And he apparently loves shooting two people just talking in a car, I swear half the shots are of this (or in a hotel room), and in annoying close-ups. You can PULL BACK with the camera, y'know! There ARE other ways to frame people! Nothing here can be blamed on the actors - they do what they can with weak material - but this is 3rd rate Tarantino-wannabe stuff, and a shame that an excellent cast is wasted on dreck. Deril and I just got frustrated watching this slow-moving train wreck. Avoid at all costs, go watch Pitt in Moneyball instead.
