Synopsis

In Clint Eastwood's MYSTIC RIVER, a murder mystery in South Boston unites three men who have been friends since childhood. Grippingly powerful performances from the entire cast--Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Marcia Gay Harden, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne, and Laura Linney--combined with gritty photography, an exceptionally emotional script, and a convincing working-class Boston setting make this film one of Eastwood's most consistent and penetrating works.

I usually love Clint Eastwood but this one just didn't do it for me. The acting was good all around but certainly not Oscar worthy. Tim Robbins' character was really kinda ho-hum and Sean Penn is starting to be like Pacino's later work - all screaming and yelling to convey emotion but very over the top. I preferred Marcia Gay Harden's performance in this to anyone else's. It was a good story, but if a few characters came forward and spoke openly to each other, two hours coulda been cut from this film. I guess that's the point.....

I completly disagree. I thought it was yet another excellent movie from Eastwood, who is proving himself to be a very competent director. This movie dealt with delicate topics about friendships. Not a "roller-coaster" ride by any means. Recommended for anyone looking for a solid story and excellent acting.

Derek hit it right on the nose. Eastwood is great. It's a solid story with above average acting performances. There is no way anyone should give it less than 3 stars (MITCH)

"Proving himself to be a competent director?"
Hello? "Unforgiven" anyone? He proved himself ages ago. The acting was sub-par, save for Marcia Gay Harden.....why am I repeating myself? I stand by my rating.

What's your rating of this movie?
