Though I enjoyed this film all along the way, I felt that once it was over it was ultimately lacking something I can't quite put my finger on.
The performances from the two leads were great, but it would've been nice to see them do more than two scenes together (sort of similar to how 'Heat' had this build up of Pacino and De Niro finally being in a movie together, but really only sharing one scene).
And though the supporting cast were all competent, the Oscar nomination for Ruby Dee (as Denzel's mom) was a bit baffling, as she was in only three scenes, none of them leaving much impact.
Anywho, a lot of good action and tension build-up, a gripping story, and Denzel losing his shit once in a while is always fun. And the continuing story of Russell Crowe fightin' round the world!
Couldn't agree more. Saw it when it came out. Too lazy to post!
Excellent movie all around, but I agree that there was something missing. Don't quite know what it is either, but the movie as a whole should have left a stronger impact on the iewer and it fell just a little short of that.
"hey, remeber me? I'm Ruby Dee. I'm almost as old as that Titanic lady and you nominated her, so nu? Nominate me already"
I'm sure the nomination went down something like that
