Strange Brew (1983)

Cast: Rick Moranis, Dave Thomas, Max Von Sydow, Paul Dooley, Lynne Griffin

Director(s): Dave Thomas, Rick Moranis

Language: English

Genre: Comedy

SCTV's Bob and Doug Mackenzie (Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas) star as two wacky beer guzzling "hosers" who set out on a zany plot to score a free case of brew. They meet the beautiful Pam (Lynne Griffin) and decide to help save her recently acquired brewery from the diabolical Brewmeister Smith (Max von Sydow--THE EXORCIST) The comedy kicks into full gear as the pair try and overpower Brewmeister Smith in a story that is actually a nutty re-working of Shakespeare's HAMLET.

Mood: Beauty, eh?
Classic Canuck Comedy. Sure, this'll be how the Americans forever view us, but so what?
Bob and Doug rule. And getting Max Von Sydow as Brewmeister Smith? Genius!
"I am your father, Luke. Turn to the dark side of the Force, you knob."
"He saw Jedi 17 times eh?"
Bob drinking all the beer in vat to save himself and Pam Elsinore from drowning.
"I really gotta take a leak!"
And Hosehead the dog! Sprouting a cape and flying off to Oktoberfest! Where did THAT come from? Hilarious!
"It's one of those New Wave records!"
"You ever notice in movies, when like, guys are driving but aren't looking at the road?"
"Pam, you're so nice. I'd kiss you if I didn't have puke breath."
Best. Canadian. Film. Ever!

Good for memories and quotes. Saw it recently and it doesn't age well (like beer?), I mean it will ALWAYS be a classic and there's rumblings about a sequel...

Just like SCTV is classic but if you watch it today it's kinda....eeep, 70's.

Papa Mikey!

I agree with Mikey. Seeing it again kinda killed the fun I had with it the first time when I was young and we had a two four with us. I give it 2 1/2 cuz that's the average between then and now.

I have to go with Mitch on this one. We grew up watching this over, and over, and over, and over... It holds a special place in my heart and doesn't seem to tire with me.
"Hey dad, Bob broke your beer!"
I also liked Hosehead rolling up the roof. That dog can do anything!!
