Genre: Fantasy / Animated
Despite my less-than-enthusiastic attitude towards most things Christmas-y (and Hannukah-ish), this is nothing short of timeless classic. Yes, the story is top-notch, the voicework and music is utterly memorable, but to take a Seuss work and animate it so successfully, all credit is due to the inimitable Chuck Jones. He somehow manages to direct this with his personal stamp (noticeable aspects of Roadrunner, Pepe Le Pew, and Bugs Bunny, among others) while still retaining Seuss' original vision.
Thoroughly entertaining family holiday fare, in the best sense, and a treat to watch every year. (not to mention lots of nostalgia).
Agreed in full. This is also one of my daughter's favorite books which i can now say word for word.
"Then the Grinch, very nimbly,
Stuffed all the bags, one by one, up the chimbley"
Always been a personal favourite of mine. A touching fable of what Christmas should really be about. Ironically, the American (in true American style) TV stations use the anti-merchanidizing cartoon to hawk merchandise (How the Grinch Stole Xmas - brought to you by Walgreens!) but I digress.
Will always be in heavy rotation at my house along with Rudolph, Charlie Brown Xmas (the soundtrack NOW AVAILABLE at Starbucks! - wish I was kidding) and Shrek the Halls.
P.S. My little girl used to have a night gown, we used to call it her Cindy-Lou nighty...'cuz when she wore it, she bore GREAT resemblance to Cindy-Lou Who, who was no more than two.
Yup. I needn't add another word.
