Mmmm...

I LIKED Fifth Element, it had a certain "foreign" quirkyness to it. But now Luc Besson brings that same French style to animation and TRIES to North Americanize it with pop-culture references in an obviously Smurf-inspired world and the whole thing ends up an erratic mess.

I thought the little Sprites were creepy, the voice acting was terrible (De Niro? Madonna? SNOOP DOG!?? WHO Casts these things???!!) and I'm frankly getting sick of Freddie Highmore, who's been cast as "Worried looking sullen kid" WAAAY too many times.

A couple of other death strokes from this movie: making the older sister Sprite into a "Leelou"esque sexpot (though not overtly sexual, she glares at the main Sprite like she wants to nail him at all times) and the Lieutenant Bad-guy, with spikey death armour and a KILLER mace yet given a goofy, dippy voice?? ALL this doesn't work on SO many levels.

If anyone's played alot of Ubisoft games, this whole movie smacks of their style. While it works in video games/cut scenes, it just doesn't work here.

Mikey!

The true quote of a man who has to watch a lot of kids movies: "...and I'm frankly getting sick of Freddie Highmore, who's been cast as "Worried looking sullen kid" WAAAY too many times."
