Action-packed and adventure-filled, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK is director Steven Spielberg's loving homage to the Saturday matinee cliffhanger serials of his childhood. When the Allies discover the Nazis are planning to use the Lost Ark of the Covenant as a weapon, the U.S. government enlists archaeologist-adventurer Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) to locate the biblical treasure chest where the remains of the broken tablets of the Ten Commandments were placed. Best thing Harrison Ford ever did (besides Star Wars obviously). This is the best of the triology, and one of my favorite movies of all time. Excellent script, acting. great action sequences. The sword master in the market in Cairo (when Indy just shoots him) is a classic scene. "Bad Dates" = best line ever! I've probably seen this movie more than any other movie (except maybe Star Wars) and I never get bored of it.

Mood: HAPPY!
I remember my parents taking me to the Dollard Drive In to see some inane G-rated movie (like "God" or "Benji") and I'd simply watch movies like Raiders and Poltergeist from the back window.

That is, until a Nazi's face began melting and I'd FREAK out. Hmmm, paritally explains the neurotic nut I've become before you today...

Absolute classic. In my top 10 of ALL time. A movie SO powerful, it made Tolga Bilgin adopt a whole new personna at JRHS...

Absolute classic action/adventure. How can it not get 4 stars?
motleymitch wrote on April 21, 2005, 3:34 am
Agreed on all counts! And every time a great action sequence ends, another one starts up right away. Truly original.
"Belloq! BELLOQ!"
"A British tar is a soaring soul..."
"Bad dates."
Hell, Sallah had all the best lines!
"My friends! I am so glad you are not dead!"

"It's a radio for talking to God!"

I just saw a Biography channel episode that showed that Tom Selleck was originally going to be the star, but he had to turn it down because he already agreed to do the first season of Magnum P.I..

Here's a couple of neat things you may or may not have known about this series.....

....below are two pics - the first is from Temple Of Doom. The nightclub at the beginning is called Club Obi Wan.

This second pic is from Raiders. It shows R2D2 and C3PO as hieroglyphs in the Well Of Souls. Neat.

I remember when I was young, I used to think Karen Allen was ho-hum. Now, re-watching it I was like, "WOW! She's HAWTE!"

Am I FINALLY growing up??!

She was even hawte in Animal House:

Deril wrote on May 8, 2008, 12:27 pm
I wouldn't say she's hawte, but she's cute, especially for her age.
Mitch & I just re-watched last weekend.
This is in my top 3 of all time faves.

Star Wars

HA HA HA !!!!!!
I'll leave it to Mitch to explain as he has a better grasp of the English language than I do. But this is essentially an inside joke that we've been laughing about all week long!

The whole Shlebstu!
motleymitch wrote on November 16, 2011, 10:42 am
It wouldn't be funny if I explained it, but it'd be funny if I showed it to you (preferably at a Manos with Rob)....but essentially there's a small scene in Raiders where a Nazi officer is chewing out Indy in what is likely not real German jibberish, and we tried to break down what he was saying, which amounted to "Rudy! The whole shlebstu! Plahshtickman!". There you go. Funny, right? Right.
(but yeah, we've been laughing all week about this. Go figure)

As a side note, I've been using the term 'the whole shlebstu' quite frequently now, to mean 'the whole deal' or 'the whole magilla', or something in its entirety. It is a totally made up term.
Example: "I cleaned up my house from top to bottom last weekend, the whole shlebstu.
Google images offers no result for 'shlebstu', so here's a picture of Derek getting dressed in the morning.

HA HA HA HA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OY! Laughing my ass off at that pic!

I've been using the term "shlebstu" as slob. I think the German officer was calling Indy a slob because his hair was a mess and he just looked out of sorts.

If I see a fat slobby looking guy with his sirt untucked, messy hair etc then I say "look at that shlebstu".

So THIS is my life!

Mikey, I LURVE the pic you posted above.

Well played sir!
