|Cast: Kevin Spacey,
Barry Del Sherman|
Director(s): Sam Mendes
Genre: Social Drama
Spacey was so much fun to watch here. He may be a little nuts, but everyone around him is nuttier. It really is enough to drive a guy crazy, and I loved seeing him quit his job and just kinda give up and do what he wants (everyone's dream, right?).
Loved when he went for an interview at McDonald's afterwards, and they see he's WAAY over-qualified and he just tells them he wants a job with the least amount of responsibilty possible.
In the end, I wouldn't really call it a happy movie, but it sorta is. Spacey resigns himself to his fate and seems okay with it.
There are definitely dark moments - the rebellious daughter, the family quarrels, the psycho neighbour (Chris Cooper in a great role) - but I find the humour in Spacey's performance tempers it. He's bleak, blunt, cynical, sarcastic, and wary of his surroundings, but lightly comic too, and very deserving of the Oscar he won. And Mena Suvari is hot.
