Lots of fun. Didn't really know what to expect the first time I watched, but simple to sit back and enjoy without thinking too much. Pretty cool concept. F/X were not too hot though.
Loads of fun - though I liked Chow's 'Kung Fu Hustle' more, this still had plenty of cartoon-ish action, comedy and charm. Think Crouching Tiger and Buster Keaton playing soccer, lots of high-flying antics, literal fireball soccer kicks, human whirlwind/Tazmanian Devil moves, Bruce Lee homages, all with a wink and a nod to the viewers. Much of the cast here Chow would use again in KFH, and it's clear they're all in on the fun and jokes, and we're taken in from the get-go. A simple story of an underdog soccer team winning the big games using their Shaolin skills, but this isn't about story, it's pure showcase and spectacle and Chow's sheer enjoyment in overkill of the medium in the best way possible. Smile-inducing lunacy, loved it.
